There are many things that I could be writing about, here and elsewhere, but I finally finished and posted The "Evolution" of a Problematic Shipper, a look back at my early adventures in X-Men: Evolution fanfic, over on Tumblr. The post partly a response to fandom purity culture, even though I got the idea to write before I was as familiar with that culture as I am now.

Thank you so much for writing this. The purity culture in fandom is really fucking ridiculous and it's good to see you criticising it and the idea that to be a decent person, everything you like must be completely unsullied. There's no such thing as absolute purity, and I find the insistence on being pure as the driven snow counterproductive, to say the very least. That's not to say that I want to advocate for works that promote misogyny, racism or other forms of bigotry, but that there are works that can be flawed and deeply meaningful for people, and there's a space in which people can recognise those flaws whilst also connecting to a work. ♥
