I wrote about one of my favorite toxic, manipulative fictional relationships: Alex and Roger from Tamora Pierce's Tortall series.
This week, I’m writing about five of my favorite shared headcanons/fanon across five different fandoms (listed in the order in which I discovered them). They vary in popularity, but I certainly didn’t come up with any of them on my own. Also, a couple of these ideas were later proven to be canon, but a noticeable number of people speculated that they might be true before that point.
Spoilers for The Magnus Archives, in particular, lie within.

April Fanfic Roundup
Apr. 30th, 2019 09:22 pmDue to a job transition that required me to tie up quite a few loose ends, I only posted one story in April!
Collect Your Scars focuses on some very poor communication between Alex and his friend Gary, with Roger’s creepy, manipulative influence in the background. Not all of my twenty-five Tortall fanworks (to date) are about abusive power dynamics, but most them have been, including this one. And I have no plans to stop any time soon.

With the posting of my latest story, I have officially shared over 10,000 words of fic on AO3 about Tamora Pierce's Tortall series. (I'm not even counting the snippets in the knight and mage AU tag on my Tumblr.) And, with one exception at this time, all of those stories either focus upon or reference one particular pairing.
When I started listening to the Tortall Recall podcast back in April, I thought that I was in for a sometimes nostalgic, sometimes critical look back at books that I had adored as a preteen... and I was right. What I did not expect was that a tangent about the series villain and his squire would inspire me to churn out one ficlet, let alone a full dozen to date, about their spectacularly dysfunctional relationship.
However, given my fondness for characters who have twisted relationships with authority figures, sometimes involving mind control (which Pierce never makes explicit but is strongly implied), I can't say that I was entirely surprised.
