Throwback Thursday, Fandom Edition: Holy Creative Nostalgia, Batman!

I wrote about Batman Beyond, self-indulgent crossovers, and my standards for female characters in the late 1990s.

In case anyone is wondering, the "girl warrior" character who became Terry's crossover love interest is Helaine, from John Peel's Diadem series. I don't actually remember a whole lot about those books, but they must have made some impression on me at the time.

Oh wow, Diadem, that takes me back! (Though I don't remember anything about the books either, oddly! Weird!)

Without looking anything up: I can remember that the three main characters were Helaine, Pixel, and Score, and that they all came from different dimensions (I think?). I remember that one of the antagonists/side characters had the last name "Caruso," which I borrowed for one of my original characters, which indirectly influenced my online username from then until now.

Also, one book was about unicorn politics.

This is cool and fascinating. Curious when you started getting involved in Internet fandom after that?

This chain of events probably merits its own post, but: my household got the Internet in 1999 or 2000, and I used it to look for Harry Potter fan sites, one of which linked to fanfiction.net. I set up my own account there not long after, though I didn't start sharing my own stories until I fell head over heels into the X-Men universe.
